Fortis is an international
group operating in the fields of insurance, banking and investments. In
its home market, the Benelux, Fortis is one of the largest financial services
providers, offering a broad range of financial services through various
distribution channels. In other European countries, the United States
and Asia Fortis focuses on specialist market sectors. In the more than
200 Fortis companies over 62,000 employees are solid partners, providing
flexible solutions for individuals and businesses, large and small.
Fortis' history
Each of the companies that together make up Fortis has a strong reputation
and often a rich history as well. Fortis itself arose in 1990 out of the
merger of the Dutch combination AMEV/VSB with Belgium's largest insurer
AG. It was the first cross-border merger in the financial sector. Since
then Fortis has grown considerably, mainly in the Benelux and the United
States, not only by making large investments in acquisitions but also
by developing further under its own steam.
Fortis' vision
Fortis companies are strongly rooted in the society of each country in
which they carry on business. As a result they know what their customers
want and are able to provide good, tailor-made products and services.
Fortis companies have a large degree of independence, guaranteeing the
endurance of this local involvement. What makes Fortis strong as a group
is the combining of the strengths of its companies. They work very closely
together to continually update and further improve the services they provide
to their customers. They use their combined strengths, their knowledge
and experience to deliver distinctive, innovative solutions. They do not
merely meet expectations, they exceed them.
